BATTERY BARN – ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS……..DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY – THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED. I recently ordered a rechargeable battery pack for my hand-held ICOM Marine Radio. Although the packing slip showed the correct part description, the battery pack I received was clearly not the correct part number, type or voltage that I ordered (In addition, it was actually $10 cheaper than the correct part but I was still charged the full price). When I emailed Battery Barn and explained the difference, they told me that the part I received was designed by ICOM as an upgrade for my radio. Not true! According to ICOM, that battery pack would only give me HALF the transmission power and distance that the correct battery would (NOT very desirable for a marine radio when you’re out in the middle of the ocean). I called Battery Barn, spoke to Michael Liang (president), and he hesitantly agreed to refund the cost PLUS return postage. Upon its return, he refunded the cost of the battery pack, but neglected to credit the $6.00 postage. In follow-up email correspondence, Michael stated that (and I quote) “If the battery was defected, we will cover the return postage, it turns out the battery is in good condition. For some reasons, you don't want it. we can't cover the return postage.” From our original telephone conversation Michael understood perfectly well the reason I was returning the incorrect battery he sent me, and agreed to cover return postage. Now, he doesn’t respond to my emails and when I call he says he doesn’t want to talk to me and hangs up. That is no way to conduct a responsible business! I realize we’re only talking about $6.00, but this is now a matter of principle and honor. He didn’t live up to his promise, and there were too many discrepancies with the whole Battery Barn transaction.
